Just Daddy & Me

Last week Justin took Taylor on their first Daddy Daughter date. It was so cute! Taylor wanted her hair done in curls that day for her big date and she picked out her favorite casual dress. She was so excited when I told her Daddy was home. You could just see the pure excitement all over her smiling face. (It seriously was like a flashback and a flash forward in my life all at the same time. A flashback to the dating years when you REALLY were that excited... but too cool to actually show it on your face & a flash forward to when Taylor really starts to date.)

She was all ready and was excited to ride in Daddy's car. They went to "the quesadilla guys" aka "Cafe' Rio" for dinner and set some goals. Then, they went Mother's Day shopping and Taylor got a few little presents of her own. She picked out a little pink duck, a nail file and some lip gloss for herself, Brooklyn & Mommy. (Justin wrapped the duck before work so Taylor woke up to her present...still excited even though she knew what it was).

She had a blast and I could already see how much their relationship had grown in one night! (She tends to be a Mama's girl). I was so impressed with how cute Justin was. He is really such a great Dad. He wore her favorite tie to work that day and asked Taylor if she wanted him to change into his jeans or wear his suit & tie for their date. Taylor is a sucker for a guy in a suit or tux...so of course that is what she picked.

It was really effective also, Taylor has remembered her goals to date and is really making a conscious effort to work on them.

Side Note: OK...I have realized through blogging that I can't tell a story without a tangent or two. I just love all the details! So here is another side note...a little history: Taylor has a fear of getting older. She doesn't want to get old because once someone died and she was asking why and her Nana told her that the person had just gotten old. Then, her Nana recently had a shoulder surgery. In efforts to help Taylor understand what a surgery was and why Nana couldn't use her arm for awhile we tried to generally explain what the surgery entailed. So as you can imagine, now Taylor says she doesn't ever want to be a Nana because she doesn't want to have surgery. One of her favorite sayings is, "I just want to be a kid forever!" So the weekend before the daddy daughter date we went out to eat @ Macaroni Grill in Provo. It was Prom for some of the local high schools so there were tons of girls in their "beautiful" dresses and the guys in their tux's. It was almost as exciting as Disneyland for Taylor. She would just stare and loved it!!! We told her that the teenagers were on a date and were going to a special "ball" called Prom. Then we were talking about how Taylor was going to get to do on a date with daddy and Taylor got all nervous and upset. We finally figured out that she thought that if she went on a date she would be older (a teenager) and she was worried that she wouldn't be a kid anymore!! So funny!
